About

“Suspension of Unbelief” exists for two kinds of people: Christian believers who struggle against doubt, and those outside the Christian faith who maybe want to believe, but don’t feel like they can yet. My hope is to provide readers with thoughtful reflections on difficult issues, and to create a space for open and charitable discussion.

The title is something of a play on words. In storytelling, “suspension of disbelief” refers to the process in the audience member’s minds whereby they willingly make allowance for certain fantastical or surreal elements in order to more fully inhabit a story. In one sense, “suspension of unbelief” is similar. You see, we live in a grand story (and one that happens to be true), and my aim is to help visitors inhabit it more fully. In another sense, “suspension of unbelief” is very different. Rather than relaxing our analytical faculties, my call is that we engage them fully, and by doing so, come to realize that the Christian story is the one that makes the most sense of our world.

I invite discussion, and anyone is welcome to participate. I do ask that comments be respectful. I reserve the right delete comments that are overtly disrespectful, or crude, profane, etc.

Thank you for stopping by. May what you find here bless you 🙏🏻.
